Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams Postgame Quotes
On tonight's game:
"One of the things that is going to make us a good team is our unselfishness. In a game like this tonight, especially after some tough games, there is a tendency to relax and maybe get away from the type of game you need to play."
On Maryland's first-half defense:
"The defense for the second 10 minutes of the first half was outstanding -- we really did a good job not giving them open looks."
On the Seawolves:
"Stony Brook is a team in its second year at Division I and Nick Macarchuk has proven himself as a coach and has done a good job bringing them along."
On the Terps' start:
"This season, we went through some adversity early. Hopefully, it is going to make us tougher than we were last year as the year goes on."
On Byron Mouton:
"Byron is a very emotional player and that is important, especially at home. He gets us started with emotion and it is contagious."
Stony Brook Head Coach Nick Macarchuk Postgame Quotes
On the game:
"For about the first seven minutes, we did what we had to do to keep control of the game. But ultimately turnovers did us in. They're very good. They played very well and they were very sharp."
On the game's effect on Stony Brook:
"The players are disappointed and down and I'm upset and angry. For the first seven minutes we did very well and it would have been a different story if we had kept it up. It depends on what we take out of this game. If we come back and work hard against Columbia, we'll get something out of it. But if we lose to Columbia on Saturday, we didn't get anything out of it."
On the loss:
"You don't make any excuses. Sometimes when you don't play well it's because the other team doesn't let you. Their defense was overpowering. The difference in points off turnovers was astronomical."
On playing games against top teams like Maryland:
"It's fun to play a couple of games like this during the year if we play the way we're capable of playing. But we didn't do that tonight. We made too many mistakes that turned into easy baskets."
