
Maryland Baseball Team Edged By East Carolina 5-4 In 10 Innings.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - James Molinari singled home Kevin Grieve in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving East Carolina (3-1) a 5-4 win over Maryland (0-3) in the final day of baseball action at the Trademark Properties Classic in Charleston, S.C. The win overshadowed an impressive Terp comeback, as Maryland rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the final three innings.
After a scoreless first two innings, East Carolina got a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Molinari provided the big blow of the inning with a RBI triple. He then scored on a single by Chad Tracy.
The Pirates tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bryant Ward hit a two-out, two-run single to extend the lead to 4-0.
Maryland took advantage of two errors and scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Craig Munroe reached on an error and later scored on a another error, Kevin McDonald had a RBI single and Tony Jackson knocked in a run on a fielder's choice.
The Terps tied the game in the eighth inning. Chuck Easter led off the inning with a double down the left field line. He later scored on a single by Frank Valois.
Maryland's next game is on Friday, Feb. 18 at North Carolina A&T at 3 p.m.
NOTES: Craig Munroe extended his team-leading hitting streak to five games ... Terp starting pitcher Joe Hart struck out a career-high nine batters. His previous high was six, which he recorded twice last season ... Maryland last played in an extra-inning game on March 2, 1999, tying James Madison 3-3.
