Box Score

HARMANS, MD. - Senior left-handed pitcher Joe Hart struck out a career-high 10 batters and surrendered just two runs in seven innings, leading Maryland (2-5) to a 6-2 win over Howard (0-14) in baseball action on Thursday at Joe Cannon Stadium in Harmans, Md. With the victory, the Terps have now won two out of their past three games.

Offensively, the Terps were led by designated hitter Craig Munroe, who went 3-for-5 with a double. He now has a career-high nine-game hitting streak, dating back to last season.

Maryland jumped out to a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Two of the runs scored as a result of throwing errors by the Bison. The other two runs came on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Jason Mohap and a RBI single by catcher Kevin McDonald.

Howard closed the gap to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Reggie Perry scored on a single by Dave Sneed. The Terps, however, turned a pair of double plays to prevent the Bison from getting any closer.

Maryland got a pair of insurance runs in the ninth inning. Shortstop Sean Lomas had a RBI single and right fielder Frank Valois knocked in the other run on a sacrifice fly.

Hart left the game after the seventh inning and Matt Basinger pitched two scoreless innings to get the save.

Maryland opens up its home schedule against Marist on Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m.
