Junior shortstop Sean Lomas drilled a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning, leading Maryland (8-18) to a 9-8 come-from-behind win over Richmond (13-14) in baseball action on Tuesday at Pitt Field. The Terps trailed 8-1 after seven innings but rallied for eight runs in the final two frames to snatch the win.
Other heroes for the Terps were junior outfielder Brian Patenaude, who reached base all six times he came up to bat, senior first baseman Craig Munroe, who drove in three runs, and freshman right-handed pitcher Jared Stuart, who threw two scoreless innings and struck out three batters to record the win.
As for Lomas, he went 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBI. His biggest at bat came in the top of the ninth inning, with the Terps down 8-6. After the first two batters walked, Lomas drilled his first home run of the season over the left field wall to put the Terps ahead to stay.
Richmond scored a pair of runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a seemingly insurmountable 8-1 lead. Senior catcher Josh Lamberg was the big offensive weapon for the Spiders, going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the second inning.
