FAIRFAX, VA. - Eddie Jordan belted a three-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning, leading George Mason (4-10) to an 8-4 win over Maryland (3-8) in baseball action on Thursday at Spuhler Field. Jordan's clutch hit overshadowed a career-high eight-strikeout effort by Maryland starting pitcher Mark Martin.

After getting hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second inning, Jordan stole second and third base on consecutive pitches and then scored on a ground out by Mike Johnson. The run gave George Mason a 1-0 lead.

Maryland took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Brian Patenaude singled home a run and Chuck Easter followed up with a two-run single.

George Mason closed the gap to 3-2 when Brian Anderson singled home Greg Filson in the bottom of the third inning. The Terps, however, stretched the lead back to two runs when Frank Valois scored on a fielding error in the top of the fourth inning.

Jordan gave the Patriots a 5-4 lead when he smacked his two-out three-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning. George Mason then took advantage of two Maryland errors in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored three more times to extend the lead to 8-4.

Maryland hosts Virginia Commonwealth on Friday at 3 p.m.
