WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Junior left-handed pitcher Scott Simeon pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and one walk, leading No. 10 Wake Forest (34-13-1, 13-7 ACC) to an 11-0 win over Maryland (16-26, 1-12 ACC) in baseball action on Saturday at Hooks Stadium. The game marked the second of a three-game ACC series between the two schools.
Simeon and Maryland starter Steve Schmoll were in a pitcher's duel for nearly six innings. The Terp freshman righthander allowed just three runs, one of which was unearned, and six hits through 5.2 innings.
When Schmoll left the game in the bottom of the sixth, the floodgates burst open, as Wake Forest scored eight times in the final two innings. Spearheading the Deacon attack were Cory Sullivan and freshman outfielder Ryan Johnson and junior outfielder Cory Sullivan, each of whom had three hits and drove home three runs.
Simeon (9-1) got the win while Schmoll (3-2) took the loss.
The Terps and Deacons conclude their series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
