Postgame Quotes - Maryland Versus Georgia Tech

Jan. 6, 2001

Recap| Box Score| Notes

Maryland Coach Gary Williams
"In the first half we really played with great intensity and were really quick in a lot of situations. We did a great job of getting the ball in transition to the right people."

(on the second half)
"In the second half I thought Georgia Tech did a great job of going into the locker room and then coming out and playing hard. I don't think they changed a lot, I think they just continued to play hard. They've got that into their program where they do that. We didn't respond really well with a 19-point lead coming out at halftime. I thought we had a few guys who might have thought the game was over. Any time you get into that situation with a team that can shoot the 3's, and has a player like Jones on the inside, you're going to run into problems. And they made a great run at us. We had a couple of easy shots that we didn't make and we turned the ball over when I thought we were going to score, and they kept scoring. It just snowballed, all of a sudden it is a tough game again. We were able to control it and take it back out and win the game OK."

(on the play of his team)
"We have some guys really playing well right now. Terence Morris I think had a spectacular game today. It was great to see Danny Miller's aggressiveness out there on the court. I thought Mike Mardesich in the first half really got us going. That's pretty typical of our team. Juan Dixon didn't shoot it like you come to expect him to shoot, but he finds ways to score. He is going to find a way to score, and today it was at the foul line. It's nice to see that happen when he doesn't shoot the ball as well as he normally does."

(on the ACC)
"I think it is really important when you are in our league this year to keep improving, and that's where we are. We want to get better. We will look at this game, see some things and work on them, and get ready for North Carolina. If you ever think you've arrived this year, you are in for a rude awakening, so we have to play with the same intensity no matter how we shoot the ball or how we are playing."
