* The University of Maryland women's tennis team will conclude its fall schedule at the ITA Regional tournament, to be held in Philadelphia, Pa. on the weekend of Oct. 26-29.
The Terps will participate in a pool of more than 50 east coast schools in the annual tournament and have one last opportunity to compete before the start of spring ACC season.
* Notable performances at last year's ITA tournament included sophomore Emily Marker's (Ann Arbor, Mich.) run to the doubles semifinals with partner Catherine Valatin. Marker also competed in the singles bracket, notching one win.

* The team dominated the 2001 Maryland Invitational held in College Park, Md. On the singles end, sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) showed great improvement, reaching the finals of her flight. Chavardes lost to American University's Kristina Georgieva in a three set duel, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
* Junior Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore team captain Marker led the way in the top singles flight, meeting each other in the finals. Causevic overcame Marker in the all-Terrapin final, 6-4, 6-2. In consolation play, junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) posted two consecutive wins, over Syracuse's Katie Thompson and American's Olga Mikhailova.
* On the doubles end, Causevic and Marker took the top doubles flight, defeating American's Lourdes Riusech and Mikhailova 8-3. The B flight team of Chavardes and Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) had to take a default from the finals due to injury. DeCamilla was suffering from a strain in her lower back.
* Terp Monica Villarreal (Big Spring, Texas) was also forced to withdraw from her consolation match due to a knee injury.
Thoughts on a busy weekend
"We played really well," senior Villarreal said. "Our fall season is so short to begin with that every little tournament helps us prepare for the upcoming year. Next on the agenda is the ITA Regionals which is always tough. The rest of the year will be focused on getting ready for the spring season."
* The doubles teams showed positive signs at the Maryland Invitational in both flights. The players are looking more confident and learning to play with each other, according to head coach Martin Novak.
