Greensboro, N.C. -
Virginia senior midfielder Laura Gaworecki and
Maryland sophomore forward Audra Poulin were named ACC Co-players of the
Week in women's soccer after each scored important goals in this week's
action. Gaworecki led the Cavaliers to a three-win week, including
shutout victories over Maryland and George Mason. Against the Patriots,
the senior from Houston, Texas tallied the lone goal of the game to lead
the Cavs to the 1-0 result. With two wins under their belt, Virginia
looked to Gaworecki again against James Madison, and the Texan found the
back of the net twice more in the 4-1 decision.
Poulin,a native of Silver Spring, Md., only had one goal for the week,
but it was self-described as one of the greatest moments of the young
sophomore's life. The Terrapin forward collected a pass in overtime
against Clemson and raced in front of the net to fire the game-winner
past Lady Tiger goalkeeper Katie Carson in the 111th minute. The first
goal of her career helped the Terrapins upend No. 8 Clemson 1-0 in a
thriller at College Park. It marks just the ninth victory ever by
Maryland over a Top 10 opponent.
