The Omni Hotels Regionals Tennis Championships
* The University of Maryland women's tennis team will send two players, junior Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) to the 2001 Omni Hotels Regionals, in Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 26-29.
* Both players will compete in the singles and doubles competition against the nation's top conference players. Possible alternates are senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) and junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland).
* Marker is the only Terrapin on the 2001-02 squad with regional experience. At last year's event, she advanced to the semifinals round with partner Catherine Valantin.
About the Omni Hotels regionals
* Formerly known as the Rolex Regional Championships and ITA Regionals, the Omni Hotels Regionals Championships date back to 1981, featuring the top tennis players from each of the ITA's regions at the NCAA Division I level.
* Both the doubles champions and the singles finalists will advance to the 2001 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held November 8-11 in Texas. Originally played in February, this event is the second of three national collegiate tennis championships for the 2001-02 season.
Fall season
* "It's a great honor for the athletes to represent the university at the regional level," head coach Martin Novak said. "It's a way for them to enter the national scene and hopefully bring some trophies back to Maryland."
* Regular practices will come to halt in early November and the team will focus more on conditioning and running. Weekly individual workouts are going to be a focus through the end of December.
High Flyers
* Marker has a 4.0 GPA, majoring in decision and information sciences from the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
* Causevic has earned All-ACC honors both her freshman and sophomore seasons at Maryland.
