KITTY HAWK, N.C. - Senior Pete Toole (Lancaster, Pa.) and sophomore Tim Kane (Simsbury, Conn.) scorched the par 72 Seascape Golf Course on Monday to take an early lead after 18 holes at the Seascape Intercollegiate, hosted by Old Dominion University.
Maryland, behind tournament co-leader Toole who shot 68 on the 6,469-yard track at Kitty Hawk, will enter Tuesday's final round of play five strokes ahead of second-place UNC Wilmington. Behind Toole's low round of the season and a sub-par 71 by Kane, also his low round of the year, Maryland shot 283 to finish the first round one under par as a team.
Kane finished the opening round tied for eight place, just one stroke ahead of teammates Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.) and Bobby MacWhinnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who both shot par 72. Junior John Moheyer (Lima, Ohio) shot 76.
