Maryland Women's Tennis Team To Send Player To Nationals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Maryland women's tennis team was well represented at the 2001 Omni Hotels Eastern Region Championships by senior Pam Floro (Manila, Philippines), junior Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) Floro and Marker made it to the second and third rounds in the respective draws, but Causevic is still in action having already earned a trip to the nationals as one of four singles finalists.
Causevic defeated Harvard's Susanna Lingman in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 7-6(4). In the semifinal round, Causevic handed Old Dominion's Nataly Cahana a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 loss in a three set battle. Causevic will next take on Harvard's Courtney Bergman. The other pairing of finalists, Pennsylvania's Alice Pirsu and Princeton's Kavitha Krishnamurthy, will compete in the second match. The winners from both matches will then compete for the regional title.
All four singles finalists will advance to the 2001 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships held Nov. 8-11 at the Brookhaven Country Club, in Farmers Branch, Texas. Originally played in February, this event is the second of three national collegiate tennis championships for the 2001-02 season.
The 2001 Omni Regionals is Causevic's first regional tournament appearance. She is a two time All-ACC athlete and will join Bergman, Pirsu and Krishnamurthy, against regional finalists from around the nation in November.
