COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Three Maryland women's soccer players were named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team after stellar seasons in 2001. Senior goalkeeper Ali Wolff (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore defender Lindsay Givens (Downingtown, Pa.) were named to the regional second team, while sophomore midfielder Jen Biscoe (Baltimore, Md.) earned third-team honors.
Wolff earned the regional award as she played all 1801 minutes recording a sparkling 1.00 goals against average. An All-ACC second team honoree, Wolff led all conference keepers in shutouts against conference teams with three as she was among the ACC leaders with nine total shutouts. She was also among the conference leaders in save percentage with .765 mark. Wolff finished her Maryland career among the all-time leaders in shutouts (20.5 - first), games played (68 - second), games started (63 - second), minutes played (5513 - second), saves (254 - third) and goals against average (1.57 - fourth).
Givens was named to the all-regional team for the second time in her career, as she was a third-team selection as a freshman in 1999. Known for her trademark throw-ins, Givens was second on the team in assists with six and finished with eight points. She was also named an All-ACC second team selection this past season. Overall, Givens ranks tied for 10th in career assists with 11 heading into her junior year.
Biscoe had a dymanic return year after missing all but five games due to an ACL injury in her 2000 freshman season. Biscoe led the Terps in scoring with 15 points and tied with Kim King for the team lead in goals. She showed a knack for scoring big-time goals as four of her five goals were game-winners. She netted the decisive goals against Loyola, William & Mary, Rutgers (in overtime) and Mount St. Mary's.
The Terps finished the season 10-7-2 with their sixth NCAA appearance in seven seasons under third-year head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski.
