
Maryland Defeats George Washington 5-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The women's tennis team (3-2, 0-0 ACC) defeated cross-town rival George Washington (1-3, 0-0 A-10) 5-1 Wednesday in the College Park Tennis Bubble. The Terps swept all three doubles matches with senior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) returning to the line-up after being sidelined for the first four dual matches with a shoulder injury. Valantin teamed up with freshman Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) to capture her first win of the spring season at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Freshmen Olivia Dubovikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) boosted their doubles record to 2-1 with a defeat over Katarina Stastny and Lindy First at the No. 1 doubles. They took the set 8-6. Sophomore Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and partner junior Pamela Floro (Manilla, Philippines) continue their success as a doubles pair with their fourth win on the season at No. 2.
The Terps claimed four singles victories and George Washington garnered one. Lindy First defeated Marker 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 at the No. 3 doubles. Dubovikov and Causevic earned wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Causevic owns 10 wins overall (including fall competition) for a team-high. Floro defeated Samantha Fisher at No. 5 by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Chavardes clinched the Maryland team victory with a 7-5. 6-4 win over Stastny at No. 4. The No. 6 singles match was not played.
Today's victory ends a five-match homestand for the Terps. They are back in action on Feb. 24 at William & Mary at 11:00 a.m. Matches will be held at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va. The Tribe is currently ranked No. 16 by the ITA and holds a 4-1 record. Maryland will return home on March 3 to face Virginia Commonwealth.
