Maryland Faces Two ACC Foes in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The women's tennis team (5-5, 0-0 ACC), after being rained out against Florida State in Tallahassee last week, is preparing to face its first two ACC opponents this weekend. Both matches will be at home. The site is to be determined depending on the weather. The Terps remain an even 5-5 on the season after having almost three weeks off without competition.
Coming up first for Maryland is Georgia Tech on Saturday, March 31, at noon. The Yellow Jackets are currently 8-6 on the season and are ranked No. 39 by the ITA. They will face Georgia on March 27 before heading to College Park. The Terps will then square off against Clemson on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Clemson holds a 7-8 record on the season and are 0-2 in the ACC.
Scouting Georgia Tech and Clemson
Georgia Tech is currently ranked No. 39 nationally and is 8-6 on the season. Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets is senior Bobbi Guthrie who holds a 12-1 dual record. She had played most of the season in the No. 3 singles position. Sophomore Jaime Wong is also having a stellar season and owns an 11-2 dual record. She and Guthrie are both 8-4 in doubles competition. Clemson is currently 7-8 in dual competition and 0-2 in the ACC. Leading the Tigers is sophomore Ana Stiglic with a 13-2 dual mark. She has spent most of the season at the No. 5 singles. At the Nos. 1, 2, 3 singles is junior Anna Savitskaya who stands at 9-6 on the season.
Catherine Valantin Earns ACC Player of the Week for March 12
Senior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) earned ACC Player of the Week honors on March 12. After being sidelined for the first five dual matches with an injury, Valantin returned to the lineup to win four consecutive matches. Valantin is also a perfect 5-0 in doubles competition with freshman partner Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France).
Maryland Stumbles Against No. 42 Minnesota
The Terps stumbled against No. 42 Minnesota on March 11. The Terps netted one doubles victory and two singles wins but that was not enough to defeat the Golden Gophers who claimed the 5-2 victory. Sophomore Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) with freshman partner Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) netted the first Terps' victory with a 9-7 doubles win. Valantin and Marker also earned singles victories.
