Terps Prepare to End Regular Season with Three Matches

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The women's tennis team (5-10, 0-5 ACC) prepares to wrap-up conference play this week with one road match and two matches at home. The Terps have struggled this spring with ACC opponents but have three more chances to capture victories before heading to the ACC championships in Orlando, Fla. on April 19.
The Terps will face Florida State on April 11 at Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. at 1 p.m. This match was originally scheduled for March 19 in Tallahassee, Fla. but was postponed due to rain. Maryland then rounds out the regular season with two matches at home against NC State and Wake Forest on April 14 and 15, respectively. Matches are slated to begin at noon.
Maryland struggled in ACC play last week, dropping three matches. Virginia defeated the Terps 6-1 in Charlottesville, Va. Sophomore Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) won at the No. 1 singles and senior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) and freshman Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) won at the No. 2 doubles. No. 2 Duke downed Maryland 7-0 and North Carolina won by a 6-1 decision. The only Terp victory was earned by Marker at the No. 4 singles.
Scouting Florida State, NC State and Wake Forest
The No. 61 Seminoles are currently 11-9 overall and 3-3 in the ACC after defeating Clemson 5-2 on Sunday. Leading Florida State is junior Alida Gallovits who is currently ranked No. 68 in singles by the ITA. In doubles competition, Jessica Balbuena and Samantha Schoeffel are ranked No. 39.
The Wolfpack is 7-10 on the season and 1-4 in the ACC. Myrna Bawono leads the team in singles victories with nine at the No. 6 singles. She is 2-3 in the ACC. Leading the team in doubles competition is Loni Worlsey and Jackie Leskovar at No. 1 with a 5-5 record for the spring. The duo is 1-3 in conference play.
Wake Forest is currently undefeated in the ACC and is 12-6 for the spring. Sophomore Bea Bielik is No. 3 nationally with an 11-4 overall record. She is currently undefeated in the ACC in the No. 1 singles position. Also undefeated in the ACC, is No. 24 junior Janet Bergman at the No. 2 singles.
