Women's Tennis Passes First Test Of The Year

Williamsburg, Va.-- The University of Maryland women's tennis team wrapped up the weekend at the William & Mary Invitational, with a series of impressive wins in consolation matches.
Winners of the day included sophomore Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) who defeated William & Mary's Amy Wei (6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-0), in a come-from-behind victory. Marker went on to defeat Wake Forest's Elizabeth Proctor to win the consolation round in her flight. Senior Pamela Floro's (Manila, Philippines) match against No. 87-ranked Ana Radeljevic ended in a default, with Radeljevic retiring in the second game of the first set. Sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) defeated William & Mary's Kelli Partlow (6-1, 6-3), to win her consolation round.
All four doubles teams failed to pull out a win Sunday morning. The team of Floro and Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) came close, narrowly falling to Virginia Tech's Stubbs and Vincent (9-7). However, the William & Mary Invitational did provide the doubles teams with experience, since all eight of the Terrapins are playing together for the first time. Doubles players, sophomore Kristin Roth (Ashton, Md.), freshman Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) and Jedrzejak are all new additions to the team.
The Terps return to action next week, when they host the Maryland Invitational, to be held September 28-30.
