Terps to host Maryland Invitational
* The Terrapins will host the Maryland Invitational, September 28-30. Teams attending will be Penn State, Syracuse, West Virginia and American. The games will be played at the Tennis Center of College Park, the University's new facility this year.
* Coach Martin Novak is optimistic about Maryland's outlook for the 2001-2002 season. " We saw good things at the William & Mary Invitational. We had solid results and just need to continue to grow and improve," Novak said.
Tennis back after a competitve weekend at William & Mary
* The University of Maryland women's tennis team returned home Sunday evening after the ninth annual William & Mary Invitational. The Terrapins notched 13 wins in singles play, including consolation matches.
* Senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) advanced to the semifinals round of the "Mary" Flight, falling to the Richmond's Jeannette Cluskey, (6-1, 6-0). Both junior Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) made it to the quarterfinals in their flights, before dropping to top players, Arizona's 85th-ranked Debbi Larocque and Old Dominion's 87th-ranked Ana Radeljevic, respectively.
* The doubles team of Causevic and Marker were defeated by the nation's second-ranked team, Wake Forest's Bergman and Bielik (8-1) in the semifinals of Flight A.
Coach Novak on Terps' performance
* Novak considered the William & Mary Invitational a good experience for the team. "I think we competed well for the first tournament of the year. It gave me a chance to get to know the girls and gave them a chance to meet their new coaching staff."
* With three brand new doubles teams this year, Novak sees that as the area in need for most improvement. "We need to shape and style our doubles teams," Novak said. "We need to build the energy level and cooperative spirit."
* Doubles players, junior transfer Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland), sophomore Kristin Roth (Ashton, Md.) and freshman Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) are all new additions to the team.
