Terrapins Dominate After First Round

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland women's tennis team opened up the weekend by hosting the Maryland Invitational in College Park. Players from American, Penn State, Syracuse and West Virginia are in attendance for this three-day event.
Sophomore captain Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) defeated American's Olga Mikhailova, 6-1, 6-3, to move to the semifinals round in Flight A. Along with Marker, junior Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) handed Syracuse's Katie Thompson a 6-1, 6-4 loss to proceed to the semifinals. In the B flight, both freshman Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) and sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) battled through opponents as well, and will face off against each other in the semifinals tomorrow. Sophomore Kristin Roth (Ashton, Md.), the sole Terp in Flight C, advanced to the quarterfinals with a come-from-behind victory over American's Kristin Hedger.
Leading the way on the doubles side, the team of Causevic and Marker defeated American's Lauren Martin and Jacqueline Hagen by the score of 8-2. Chavardes and DeCamilla will take on West Virginia's Shannon Price and Maia Binder, both teams coming off a first round bye.
The Tennis Center at College Park is the site for the weekend venue. Results and brackets from the tournament will be available at the end of each day on the University of Maryland athletics website: www.umterps.com.
