COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The University of Maryland women's tennis team dominated in both singles and doubles matches at the Maryland Invitational. Day two featured a solid overall team performance as seven Terps advanced to the tomorrow's finals.
In Flight A singles, junior Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) downed American's Jacqueline Hagen 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the finals. There, she will face team captain, sophomore Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) who defeated Syracuse's Daniela Kaluskova, 6-4, 6-4.
"Marker is one heck of a competitor," head coach Martin Novak said. "Ounce for ounce, she gives it her all. Also, every player has stepped it up this weekend. We are looking good."
Sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) will represent Maryland in the Flight B singles finals, defeating fellow teammate freshman Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.), 7-5, 6-2. Penn State's Maaria Husain will compete against West Virginia's Emma Jeremiejczyk for the Flight C singles title. Maryland also showed improvement on the doubles end.
Partners Causevic and Marker will face American's Lourdes Riusech and Olga Mikhailova in the Flight A doubles finals, while the team of Chavardes and DeCamilla are finalists in the B flight. Both doubles finals will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Results and brackets from the tournament will be available at the end of each day on the University of Maryland athletics website: www.umterps.com.
