COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland raised its record to 4-0 with its 32-20 win over West Virginia on Saturday. The Terrapins are 4-0 for the first time since 1995. Following are postgame quotes from the win:

Maryland Head Coach Ralph Friedgen

On the team's overall performance: "I'm really happy to get out of here with a win. We played very hard again, but not too smart. Way too many penalties. Those penalties are like a hot dagger going through my heart. We just have to get that corrected."

On the defense: "I thought our defense played an exceptional game. I thought they had a good plan and gave them some problems with a change of tempo and we adjusted to that at halftime. When we didn't commit the penalties, I thought we did a good job of stopping them."

On the offense: "Offensively, we continue to run the ball very well, even against outmanned situations, and that's to the credit of Bruce Perry. He was dealing with that extra man himself."

"I'm disappointed in our passing game, I expect it to be better. We had opportunities today that we didn't make plays that we have to make. The thing that was frustrating to me was that it's getting better in practice."

On being undefeated: "I'm excited that we're 4-0 and I'm excited about playing Virginia and I'm really proud of these kids the way they keep fighting. When you win and you don't play on all cylinders, that's a good sign."

On how Monday's tornado affected the team's performance: "We haven't had a regular week in a long while. I'm sure that's a factor. We weren't very emotional in warm-ups."

On creating turnovers: "They turned it over 6 times and we didn't. That's 6 more possessions we got and we should have a lot more points when you do that. It should be a rout. They [West Virginia] did a very good job to stay in it."

On the secondary: "They're more mature. They're hungry. Tony Jackson is kind of like a quarterback, a leader out there. He takes care of the secondary, E.J. takes care up front."

On Bruce Perry: "He was delivering some bombs out there. He stuck people. He was exploding on them. He competes for every yard he gets and again, I think he got better today. When you get 150 yards, and they're down on determined on stopping you, that's quite a statement. If we didn't have him, I'd hate to see where we'd be right now."

Tony Jackson
"It feels very good to contribute to my team. Last year we might not have made some of these plays, but now we are working so hard that we are making the plays.

On the interception: "It was a great play by Tony Okanlawon and Randall Jones to pop that ball loose. Opportunity knocked and I just fell on it."

On getting to the ball so often: "We work on pursuit drills in practice. We focus on getting to the ball. I'm just doing my part."

Guilian Gary
On singing to the student section: "Singing our song to the student section is great. We have true fans in the student section. They are behind their bench. They keep on it. We want to sing the fight song to them every week."

On being 4-0: "If the coach walks into the locker room tomorrow and says, 'whoever's been 5-0, raise your hand,' nobody will raise his hand. Nobody's ever been 5-0. So every win for us from here on out is a big win for us. It's going to build our confidence."

Shaun Hill
On the play of Bruce Perry: "Bruce had a phenomenal game and we knew they were going to try to take him out of the game plan and not let him be the one that beats them. But we were able to get him some plays and he was able to do some things...break some plays and get good yards."

On receiver Guilian Gary: "Guilian's been playing well and we expect that from him as he's a senior and one of our leaders. I have complete confidence in him to come ready to play each week."

Bruce Perry
On rushing with an extra man on the line: "It's tough. You don't always know where [the extra man] is coming from. You have to always keep your head on a swivel and look out. It was something I had to do and fortunately I was able to beat the guy a couple of times."

Mike Whaley
On his interception: "Actually, I dropped the ball. I fumbled it twice, then picked it up and ran."

West Virginia Head Coach Rich Rodriguez

On the quick Maryland start: "We had a good drive going and then we turned it over. We are not executing when we need to, especially in the red zone. It's frustrating, the guys are trying hard and giving effort. We're close, but we've got to make plays when it happens. We have to call a better game, I have to call a better game. I didn't call a real good game today and it cost us."

On the high points of the game: "I think our defense really battled in the second half and our guys didn't quit. We just didn't call a good game on offense and made a few critical errors at bad times."

On the six WVU turnovers: "You are not going to beat anybody with six turnovers, especially a pretty good Maryland team. We need to get corrected and in a hurry, because we've got some excellent football teams coming up."

On the defense: "I thought our defense gave us a chance in the second half. They played hard and tackled well. You have a turnover here and there, and you don't finish drives ... we have to learn to finish drives. When you don't finish drives and score points, you aren't going to win games."

On the second half: "We wanted to get the pace going in the second half. I know a couple times we got penalties that hurt us. Our fast pace never got going because we got penalties because we weren't set. That's just poor execution on our part, that should never happen."
