Maryland Head Coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski
"It wasn't pretty. We won it. Twenty-five shots, we've got to bury more than one. We were outworked on our home field. The key to the win was...we were just a little better technically than this opponent. Obviously when you take 25 shots to three shots, your chances are a lot greater of winning the game than the opposing team. Some of the adjustments in the game we made by switching over to the 4-4-2, which made it so we had a little better rhythm.
We knew that when we got Kimmy she was going to help make everybody a better player, and that's what a great player does. They come in, they compliment the players around them, and they really do make everybody around them a better player because of their abilities to pass the ball, to find players."
Junior Defender Lindsay Givens:
"I think in the beginning of the [first] half we were dragging a little bit. We talked about it at halftime, and in the second half we kept it up. I think the main part about the second half where we improved was that we kept the field short. We kept the ball in the midfield so they had less of an opportunity to get a counterattack."
American Head Coach Michael Brady:
"Maryland [kept] us out of the majority of the plays. We showed a lot of spirit, a lot of character, and I'm very proud of our players....Our goal was to keep it close. We did a great job of containing the Maryland offensive attack."
Freshman Defender Lena Winkler:
"It really wasn't any different than any other game. We came out hard and we held them."
