Postgame Quotes: Maryland vs. EA Sports All-Stars

Nov. 19, 2002

Recap| Box Score

Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams
Opening statement:
"I thought in the second half we picked up the intensity level, and when we rotated in some new guys, I think it tired out [EA Sports]. It just made us better on offense. It just seems like when you get more aggressive on defense, it shows on the offense. We only had two team fouls in the first half; as you know we never have two team fouls, that's ridiculous. We were just willing to play passive defense the first half. It was good to see us pick it up the second half. I thought our young guys really stepped it up tonight. They got in there in the second half and played a lot of minutes and got a feel for things. I think they relaxed as the game went on."

"The two exhibition games are done, it's time to get serious in a hurry. I think we're really looking forward to playing games that count and seeing how good we are. Because we haven't proved anything yet until we get out there and start playing other college teams."

On Jamar Smith:
"Jamar can really run. He's a nice changeup from Tahj and Ryan, because they are both strong, physical players, and Jamar is more of a finesse player with great quickness. He relaxed tonight for the first time and did some really good things."

EA Sports All-Stars Head Coach Maz Trakh
Overall thoughts on the game:
"Playing them was like playing a football team that just beats on you. For three quarters, we were in there, but in the fourth, they just rammed the ball down our throats."

On the effects of fatigue:
"A lot of shots were short tonight. We just couldn't seem to get over the hump. I think if we could've gotten over it at any point, we could've been okay."

On the Comcast Center:
"It's a pretty awesome place. Having the crowd above you like that is intimidating and will give the Terps a strong home court advantage."
