Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams
Opening statement: "I thought our defense was consistently aggressive. We made a few mistakes but as long as we stay aggressive like that we are able to get steals from the full-court pressure and half-court defense which is good to see. Overall our offense was pretty good, particularly in the second half I thought we did a better job of looking inside and shooting a better percentage. We went from 48 percent to 55 percent, but we missed some opportunities in the first half which we should have finished. But we were better at it in the second half."
"I thought the young guys looked more comfortable than they did Sunday, which is really good to see. They are starting to feel comfortable enough in the offense where they just react, rather than having to think every time they are supposed to cut or set a screen. They just do it. That's what is going to show how good offensively they are as time goes by."
"Overall I thought it was a good effort for us in that kind of a game. We didn't get sloppy; I felt we stayed pretty solid with what we were trying to do. It's interesting to see guys like Andre Collins get in there. He got a chance to play late in the second half, and he certainly didn't hurt himself. I think the other freshmen did a good job. I also thought Jamar Smith was more active than maybe he was Sunday. That's important for us; those guys can push the older players. You never want a situation where the older players feel everything is a lock. I was pleased to see the young guys play well tonight."
"I don't know if you noticed it with Ryan Randle, but he's a much better all-around basketball player this year. In other words, last year he was a big body to put in there if Baxter of Wilcox got in foul trouble, but this year he's a basketball player, and there is a big difference there. He's worked hard to get himself in shape, and I'm real proud of what he's doing."
The Citadel Head Coach Pat Dennis
On Maryland: "Maryland is so fast, and their speed is just awesome. There is absolutely no substitute for speed and quickness, and we just couldn't match it."
On the full-court press: "I was really shocked at how poor we handled the press. We have a lot of experienced guys, a lot of guys who have been in the program a long time. I didn't think the press would bother us as much as it did."
On Drew Nicholas: "We tried the zone, we tried the man, and he just burned us."
On two games in three days: "It didn't affect us too much early on, but when they started to press, we just didn't have enough zip in us. It would have been nice to have had a few more days to prepare for this game."
On the second half: "We came out hard and we played well. But with seven minutes left in the game they just hit us with a barrage of 3's. It really got away from us there."
