Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese:
On Maryland's play:
"I am very encouraged with this game, even though we have to take the loss. I'm very encouraged because they had five to six WNBA players on their team and we wanted to play against the best competition. Obviously, we have things to work on but we have only had three to four weeks of practice, so I don't expect to have everything fixed."
On things Maryland needs to work on:
"With the 29 turnovers, we need to take care of the ball. Those were caused by first game jitters, and in the end of the game we needed to work on the press break. Again, we haven't had time to work on those things. We have worked on other parts of our offense and defense and I am happy with that. The turnovers will come down and rebounds...we need to get after those."
On things Maryland did well:
"We out-rebounded them, 36-28, and I am very encouraged with that performance-especially with a team with that size. I like the way we shot the ball. I give my players the green light to shoot the ball. We have a lot of players who can shoot and that opens up the inside game."
On finalizing the starting lineup:
"We are close with the perimeter players, that 's where our experience comes from. The starters in the front court might be changed depending on consistency and stamina."
On playing against WNBA players:
"They had to have their top two players in there playing 37 and 35 minutes in order to beat us. I take that as a positive element. We were more focused on getting minutes in for everyone."
Maryland Senior Guard Terri Daniels:
On playing in the new Comcast Center:
"It was exciting. I just take it as a new game as opposed to a new arena. I don't get caught in the big hoopla."
On Maryland's performance:
"I am proud of the team. We gained a learning experience from playing against a hard opponent. I am proud of our freshmen, I think they played really well."
On playing against WNBA opponents:
"It was a good confidence-booster that we could run up and down the court with them. I feel like we can play against them, then we can play against anyone."
