Senior Terri Daniels (Ellicott City, Md.), freshman Angel Ross (Midlothian, Va.) and freshman Charmaine Carr (Brandywine, Md) all scored 10 points as the Maryland's women's basketball team (4-4) maintained its flawless series record against Coppin State (4-3), defeating the Eagles 66-43 at the Comcast Center. Ross added 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.
Sophomore guard Anesia Smith (Alexandria, Md.) led the Terrapins to a 32-12 halftime lead with seven points, including a three-point jumper to seal the half. The Terps dominated the Eagles in the first half, shooting 40 percent and snatching 27 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.
Things failed to improve for the Eagles after the break, as Maryland went on a 14-2 run to begin the second half. The Terps led by as much as 30, fueled by nearly 50 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. LaKesha Wills and Shamara Singleterry each netted eight second half points for the Eagles as they tried to fight their way back into the game, but were unable to bring the lead any closer than 22 points with 18:40 left to go in the game.
Wills Lead the Eagles with 12 points in the loss. Terrapin Renneika Razor (New York, N.Y.) pulled down 10 rebounds and added four steals. Smith led the team with five assists.
The Terrapins hit the books this week, and host UMBC in their next contest on Saturday, Dec. 21, at noon in the auxiliary gymnasium of the Comcast Center due of commencement exercises in the main arena. Maryland then flies to Miami after the holidays to take part in the Gatorade Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 and 29.
