Coach Brenda Frese:
On the game:
"We are really excited to get the win. In the first half defensively, the hold of 12 points was great. I think we did a great job with our defense and our rebounding. In the second half we wanted to get a lot of our players minutes and improve on our depth. I was just pleased with a lot of individual performances; I was happy with Angel's [Ross] performance and I thought Brie [Jackson] really sparked us off the bench. Anesia [Smith] is playing with a lot of confidence at the point as well. So, we have a lot of positive things to be able to draw from it."
On positives:
"I like this statistic: 25 points off of our bench. That was great to be able to see."
On negatives:
"We have started to set team goals and anything below 70 percent free throw shooting, which was what they were shooting for, is not good. So they have 30 sprints to look forward to on Tuesday. That [the 40 percent free throw shooting] is the most disappointing figure out there."
On Anesia Smith's play:
"Anesia is starting to grasp the system and is making great decisions. She is setting people up with her penetration and is able to kick out to our shooters. She is making wise decisions about when to shoot and when to pass the ball; it will be great for our team if she continues to play with confidence."
Angel Ross
On her performance:
"It feels good to get the win, I think this will be a confidence booster for our team; the hard work we do in practices and shoot-arounds, it pays off. I think this will give us confidence going into further games. Personally, I feel glad I could contribute to our team's new confidence."
On strategy in the first half:
"It was a matter of picking it up on defense and pushing the ball up on transition."
Brie Jackson
On her contribution:
"Now, I get to step up and show my leadership and show the freshman all the stuff I learned from when coach [Chris] Weller was here and what I learned from coach B [Brenda Frese] as well."
