Tennis Team Falls To Virginia Commonwealth

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland women's tennis team lost to non-conference opponent, Virginia Commonwealth by the score of 4-3 at the Tennis Center at College Park.
The contest commenced with doubles action. No. 1 doubles seed Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) defeated the No. 39 ranked team of Martina Nedelkova and Andrea Ondrisova, 9-8 (2) in an hour and fifteen minutes. Va. Commonwealth's Barbora Zahnova and Silvia Urickova defeated Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) and Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines), 8-3. Although initially leading 5-3, Maryland's Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) dropped their doubles contest by the score of 8-5.
On the singles side, Ondrisova defeated Marker, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Floro, playing No. 3 singles, eliminated Urickova in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. Jedrzejak lost to Zahnova, 6-3, 6-2. The top singles game between Causevic and Nedelkova lasted for almost two hours and produced an exciting three setter. Nedelkova edged Causevic in a come from behind victory, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. At the conclusion of the Causevic/Nedelkova match, the Rams' head coach, Paul Kostin opted to pull his remaining two singles players, Gago and Carollo out of their matches, settling for two defaults.
The Terps travel to play Ohio State and Kansas, Feb. 15 and 16, respectively. Maryland returns home to play Dartmouth on Feb. 23 at 11 a.m.
