GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Seniors Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) tied for fourth place in the all-around competition with scores of 38.875 as the No. 17 University of Maryland women's gymnastics team placed fourth at the University of Florida Friday night with a total score of 192.925. No. 1 Georgia placed first with a team score of 196.300, followed by host No. 13 Florida in second place with a 196.100, and No. 11 Iowa State placed third with a team score of 194.975.
Cote also placed fifth on the balance beam with a score of 9.800. On vault, Cote's 9.675 on vault tied with senior Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.) for the best Maryland score. Mealey earned a 9.800 on the floor exercise and a 9.775 on the uneven bars to finish as the Terps' top competitor on both events. Sophomore Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) tied her season-high on the floor exercise with a 9.750.
The Terrapins travel to University Park, Pa. for a tri-meet with the No. 23 Penn State Nittany Lions and the Rhode Island Rams Saturday, March 9. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m and will be held at Rec Hall.
