SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team swept Minnesota, 7-0, to improve to 8-3 on the season. The Terps concluded the last of their non-conference road matches on their spring schedule, by capturing two weekend wins in Syracuse, N.Y., Maryland defeated Syracuse by the score of 7-0, Saturday.
Maryland swept Minnesota, head coach Martin Novak's former team, in both doubles and singles competition. Junior, No. 59 Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia), battled Minnesota's Valerie Vladea at the No. 1 position in the day's only three set match. In the end, Causevic overcame Vladea, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Team captain Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) eliminated Michaela Havelkova, 6-0, 6-4. Marker is ranked No. 87, nationally and plays No. 2 singles for Maryland. Senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) downed Andrea Rose, 6-2, 6-3 and Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) also recorded a win at the No. 4 spot. DeCamilla sports an 11-0 singles record. Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) won the No. 5 position match-up, defeating Gopher, Jennifer Howard, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) defeated opponent Brandi Watts, 6-0, 6-2.
The doubles team of Causevic and Marker improves to 11-0, the duo served up another win against Havelkova and Vladea by the score of 8-6. At No. 2 doubles, DeCamilla and Jedrzejak overcame Minnesota's Perry and Rose, 8-3. The tandem of Floro and Chavardes notched an 8-1 win as well.
The Terps gear up for their first ACC opponent, Florida State, at 11 a.m. on March 16 at the Tennis Center at College Park. Maryland will face off against regional foe, William & Mary at 10 a.m. on March 17 at home in its last non-conference match of the season.
