Men's Golf Stands In 15th After 36 Holes Of Birkdale Collegiate

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The University of Maryland men's golf team opened its spring season today and stands in 15th place after the first two rounds of the Birkdale Collegiate Classic.
The Terps' total of 612 is 42 shots behind first-day leader Wake Forest, which tops the 18-team field with a score of 570. Maryland shot a first-round total of 310 followed by a second-round score of 302.
Freshman Bobby MacWhinnie carded the Terps' top individual score with a one-over-par total of 145. He stands tied for 25th place after scoring four-under-par on Birkdale Golf Club's par-five holes and carding the Terps' only sub-par score, a two-under-par 70, in the second round.
Among the Terps' other scores, sophomore Tim Kane shot 78-77-155 and is tied for 69th place. Senior Corey Brigham (78-78-156) is tied for 72nd place while junior John Moheyer and senior Pete Toole are tied for 80th place after totaling 157. Wake Forest's Bill Haas leads all individuals with a six-under-par total of 138.
Play resumes Sunday at Birkdale Golf Club for the third and final round.
