COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team dropped their last non-conference match of the 2002 season to No. 23 William & Mary, 5-1. The 60th-ranked Terrapins drop to 9-4 overall and remain undefeated in ACC play.
Doubles partners, two-time All-ACC honoree Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) and team captain Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) lost their first doubles match of the 2002 season. W&M's Candice Fuchs and Jessyca Arthur handed them an 8-5 loss. The Maryland duo still sports an impressive 12-1 doubles record. At No. 2 doubles, the team of Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) defeated Delphine Troch and Angela Buergis, 9-8. Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) and teammate Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) lost 8-5, to W&M's Amy Wei and Kari Olsen.
Causevic, ranked 59th nationally, recorded the only singles win for the Terrapins. She downed No. 50-ranked Arthur, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, to improve her singles record to 10-3. Marker, the 87th-ranked singles player in the nation, lost to Fuchs, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4. Troch upset Floro in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3. At. No. 4 singles, Jedrzejak fell to Buergis, 6-3, 6-1. Freshman DeCamilla faced her first singles loss of the season, falling to Sherbakov, 6-2, 6-2. Both head coaches decided to forgo the No. 6 singles match.
The Terps enter a two-week layaway period and will then travel to play ACC opponent, Clemson, on March 30 at 11 a.m. at the Hoke A. Sloan Tennis Center.
