COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball doubleheader scheduled for Friday in College Park has been moved to George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. The Terrapins (17-12, 0-2 ACC) lock horns with the Brown Bears (3-5) in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. one day before the team competes at George Mason Field in the 2002 GMU Spring Clash.
The Terrapins posted a 4-4 record on their spring break trip to Georgia, going 4-2 at the Buzz Classic and falling in a doubleheader to Georgia Tech to open Maryland's conference schedule.
The Terps look to get back on the winning track against the Bears, who suffered a pair of losses at the hands of the UMBC Retrievers on Wednesday. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the softball diamond.
Maryland posted an undefeated 5-0 record en route to the George Mason Spring Clash title in 2001. Then-senior Jenn Shellhammer was named the tournament's MVP, while Beth Radford (Dunkirk, Md.), Monica Cyphert (Warren, Ohio) and Liz Gall (Bothell, Wash.) also claimed all-tourney honors. Cyphert and Gall combined for the fifth perfect game in Maryland history vs. Morgan State during the round-robin portion last season.
