CLEMSON, SC -- The University of Maryland women's tennis team lost to Clemson by the score of 5-2 in the first of its two road matches this weekend. Senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) and junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) notched the two points for Maryland, by winning their singles matches. The Terps fall to 9-5 in overall play and 1-1 in ACC competition.
Neither of the three Maryland doubles teams was able to muster out wins, the Terps lost all three matches by an identical score of 8-4. At No. 1 doubles, the team of Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) and Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) dropped to Alix Lacelarie and Laurence Jayet. At No. 2 doubles, Jedrzejak and Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) lost to Clemson's Anna Savitskaya and Anna Dolinska, 8-4. Floro and sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) were defeated by Milena Stanoycheva and Richele LeSaldo.
On the singles end, Maryland lost three tough three set battles. Causevic was the first of the three set casualties. She dropped to Lacelarie, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. At the No. 2 postition, teammate Marker was eliminated by Savitskaya, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, and DeCamilla also lost by the score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. However, Floro notched an impressive win over Jayet, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Jedrzejak also won, defeating Ana Stiglic, 6-4, 6-3. Chavardes fell to Stanoycheva, 7-5, 6-4.
The Terps conclude March play against ACC opponent Georgia Tech in Atlanta, tomorrow.
