Women's Tennis Unable To Stop Virginia

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team dropped its last home game of the 2002 season to Virginia, by the score of 5-2. The Terps are 9-9 on the season and 1-5 against ACC opponents. Virginia improves to 11-7 and 2-4 in the conference. Maryland's Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) sat out of singles play, suffering from a lung infection.
On the doubles end, Terps' No. 3 team of senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) and Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) defeated Virginia's Amy O'Donnell and Christine Kim, 9-7. Causevic and partner Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) lost to Henriette Williams and Jennifer Tunchband, 9-7. At No.2 doubles, junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) also dropped their doubles contest, 8-6.
With Causevic out of action in singles play, all Terps moved up in the lineup, with Marker heading the No. 1 spot. Floro defeated Tunchband at the No. 2 position, 7-5, 6-2 and Jedrzejak won at No. 3 to give Maryland its second point. Senior Monica Villarreal (Big Spring, Texas) joined the Terps' lineup for the first time this season, representing Maryland at the No. 6 spot.
Terps travel to Winston -Salem, N.C. on April 13 and to Raleigh, N.C. the following day to face Wake Forest and N.C. State, respectively, to conclude their regular season. Maryland will then gear up for the ACC Championships, beginning on April 18.
