BALTIMORE, Md. -
Juan Dixon, a 1997 graduate of Calvert Hall who led the University of Maryland to its first national championship in men's basketball on April 1, 2002 and was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 17th pick in the 2002 NBA Draft on June 26, 2002 will be honored at Calvert Hall during an assembly at 8:20am on Friday, September 20, 2002.
Dixon, who won the 2002 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player award, was selected as a first-team All-American by the Associated Press and was named ACC Player of the Year last year. He will be joined by Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams. In their addresses to the student body, Dixon and Williams will talk about their ingredients to success; including teamwork, work ethic and heart. Dixon will also talk about the lessons he learned and relationships he developed at Calvert Hall and the impact being a student-athlete at The Hall has had on his life.
During his career at Maryland, his close relationship with Williams was well-chronicled as the Terrapins made their run toward last season's national championship. During the summer following the school's first title, Williams has written an autobiography,
Sweet Redemption, with Dixon providing his personal thoughts in the book's Foreword.
