Six Men's Lacrosse Players Earn USILA All-American Honors

Howley and Mollot Selected In National Lacrosse League Draft

TORONTO - A pair of Maryland men's lacrosse players were selected in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft held Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. The indoor lacrosse league begins the last week of December.

2003 National Defenseman of the Year Michael Howley was selected in the third round (30th overall) by the Philadelphia Wings. Howley, who was a three-time All-American played for the Major League Lacrosse Rochester Rattlers last summer in the outdoor pro league.

Howley was also named a USILA First Team All-American following the team's trip to the semifinals this past spring. The 2002 Tewaaraton trophy finalist dominated on close defense throughout his career at Maryland, starting his last 60 games as a Terp and finishing with 178 groundballs, four goals and five assists for nine points.

In the past four years, he has been a first or second team All-American selection for each of the past three seasons, making him the first Terp since Tom Worstell (1986-88) to be honored so highly. He was also a three-time All-ACC selection and earned NCAA All-Tournament honors for helping to hold Christmas pointless.

Three-time All-American Mike Mollot was selected by the Rochester Knighthawks in the eighth round (78th overall). Mollot was a third team all-American as a senior in 2003, second-teammer in 2002 and an honorable mention selection in 2001. He finished his four-year career with 172 points, making him the 14th all-time leading scorer at Maryland. With 95 career assists, he also finished ninth on the Maryland all-time list. In 2003, Mollot tallied 20 goals and added 19 assists for 39 points. He was named to the All-ACC for the second year in a row. This past summer he played for the outfoor Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse along with Howley.
