The Maryland gymnastics team has secured its second top-ranked recruit in Doreen Baram, head coach Bob Nelligan announced today. Baram is a New York native and six-time Junior Olympic National competitor who will join the team for the 2004-2005 season. Baram, along with fellow New Yorker and 2004 signee Gretchen Kittelberger, will add a new level of talent and excitement to the squad.
Baram, ranked eighth on the floor and 21st all-around at Junior Olympic National competition, comes to the Terps from Bayshore, N.Y. Prior to the junior Olympic level, she was a member of the TOPs (Talent Opportunity Program) national leaders list from 1992-1998.
She was also an all-state honoree and team MVP for Plainveiw/John F. Kennedy school in the eighth and ninth grades before heading to high school at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County.
Baram trains at Infinity/Gold Medal Gymnastics Club under head coach Tammy Marshall, the same club that boasts former Terp All-American Jill Fisher and current Terps Sarah Hoenig, Rachel Martinez and Rachel Colon.
Spending time in the gym and out in the community, Baram is part of the Big Sister/Little Sister program at Infinity/Gold Medal and volunteers teaching students Hebrew on the weekends.
