The Final What's Up With Women's Soccer For 2003

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- My second season as a Terp has come to an end. It wasn't what I had expected but everything happens for a reason. It's unfortunate that our season closed with a shoot-out because I always thought it was the worst way to lose a game, but now I can confirm it. I wish things could have been different but it is impossible to change the past. It was a heartbreaking loss, but our wounds will heal and our spirits will rise as we finish our fall semester as normal students in College Park.

During this whole season I learned a great deal about what being a teammate is. The senior girls that we are letting go from our squad are quite possibly some of the best people I have ever known. They taught the team how to win with pride and lose with dignity. Whether win or lose it was always a team effort. In the last two years not a day went by where these girls didn't make us laugh. They brought a sort of spunk to the locker room and the field.

Audra Poulin, Katie Ludwig, Jen Biscoe, Kristen Barnhill, Lindsay Givens, Carly Viher, and Valerie Lawrence were the heart and soul of this team for the past couple of years. They took the underclassmen under their wing and showed us the ropes of College Park and have been the best mentors anyone could have asked for. These individuals have given our team some of the best memories that will never be forgotten. As their names become retired from the Terps roster, I am happy to say that I got to play with the best bunch of girls imaginable. I can honestly say, on behalf of the underclassmen, that these girls will be truly missed, not only for their athletic ability but also for their extraordinary personalities.

Not only were the girls a big part of the team but if it weren't for their parents, they wouldn't be here! The parents have been a huge part of our team unity because no matter what, after every game, win or lose; they always had smiles, hugs, and words of support waiting for all of us on the other side of the field. (Sometimes pizza, chicken, and great deserts as well! You know I always like to talk about food!) But seriously, these parents have been a great source of strength for us and I wanted to let them know how much we appreciate them. Those hugs and smiles meant more to us than they will ever know. I hope to see many of them at games to come.

Remember... always shoot for the moon because if you miss, you will still be amongst the stars! I just wanted to let everyone know, WE LOVE YOU SENIORS and we won't be the same with out you!

This is Danielle Malagari aka Chunky Monkey, Chunk Style and Dbaby signing off for the final time of this Fall Season!
