Raleigh, N.C. - The University of Maryland women's gymnastics team finished fourth in the eighth annual Governor's Cup with a season-high score of 194.300. North Carolina won the meet with its score of 196.775, NC State finished second with a 195.675 and Towson was third
with a 194.575. In the battles of the states, the two teams from North Carolina outscored the two Maryland teams, 392.450-388.875.
Terp freshman Alexandria Gatch placed second on the beam with a career and team season high, 9.85. Gatch was edged by Tar Heel Courtney Bumpers who notches a 9.9. Teammate Sarah Hoenig, the 2002 NCAA Regional Participant, came in fifth on the beam, with a 9.825.
On the bars, Terp Mandy Pascual finished fifth with a 9.800. Freshman Rachel Martinez placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 38.775. Martinez's scores on the vault, bars, beam and floor were 9.375, 9.750, 9.750 and a 9.9, respectively.
North Carolina's Bumpers won the all-around with a 39.600. She also scored a perfect 10.0 on the floor exercise portion of the meet.
Maryland will be back in action on Feb. 14, with the Terps hosting West Virginia at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the meet is free.
