
Men's Golf Team In Tie For 2nd At Rutherford Invitational

Four University of Maryland golfers are among the top 21 individuals and the Terps are in second place as a team after the first 36 holes of the Rutherford Invitational here.
Maryland followed an opening round 295 with a season-best 277 and is at four-under par, four shots behind tournament host Penn State. The Terps are tied for second with Liberty in the 15-team event.
Sophomore Bobby MacWhinnie, making his second appearance of the spring, shot a six-under 66 in the second round and is in a tie for 12th with a one-under 143. MacWhinnie, playing on the Blue Course where he won a state high school championship, opened with a 77. Junior Tim Kane fired back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 and is in a tie for 17th. Senior John Moheyer had a two-under 70 following an opening round 75 and is in a tie for 21st along with teammate Dan MacDonald (71-74). Freshman John Eades had a 69 in the second round - the second-best effort by a Terp on the day - and is in a tie for 29th after shooting a 78 in the first round.
Penn State's Jim Fuller is in the individual lead after a 71-67 for a 36-hole total of six-under 138.
The tournament concludes Sunday.
