COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
With Major League Lacrosse set to kick off this weekend, nine former Terps will be members of opening day veteran rosters this season.
The hometown Baltimore Bayhawks feature three former Terps including 2003 newcomer attacker Andrew Combs, who was a second team All-American for the Terps in 2001 after he scored 50 goals. Combs joins veteran Bayhawks defender Brian Reese (Maryland 1995-98) and midfielder Kip Fulks (1993-96).
The Bridgeport Barrage welcome back attackman Scott Hochstadt (1996-1999), who was a three-time All-American for the Terps. Hochstadt missed all of last season with a shoulder injury.
Goalie Brian Dougherty (1993-96) will suit up for the Long Island Lizards this season after two years with the Rochester Rattlers. "Doc" was a two-time first team All-American for the Terps in 1995 and 1996 and won the Kelly Cup as the nation's top goalie both seasons.
The New Jersey Pride features two former Terps in classmates midfielder Chris Malone (1997-2000) and defenseman Jason Carrier (1997-2000). Both saw action with the Pride last season.
Rochester will have two key contributors in former Terp All-Americans Casey Connor (1997-2000) and Nate Watkins (1999-2002). Both were important members of the Rattlers' squad last season.
The MLL will hold its 2003 College Draft on Thursday, May 29 where several 2003 Terp grads are hopeful of being drafted to play in the MLL this summer.
