
Gilchrist Named To Adolph F. Rupp Trophy Watch List

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior point guard John Gilchrist, the MVP of the 2004 ACC Tournament, earned another prestigious preseason honor with his inclusion on the watch list for the Adolph F. Rupp Trophy. Gilchrist, the Terps' top returning scoring, assists and steals leader from a season ago, has been mentioned this preseason as a candidate for the Wooden and Naismith National Player of the Year awards as well.
The Rupp Trophy will be given to the nation's best player at the NCAA Final Four in St. Louis. Last year's winner, Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph's) went on to become a first round draft pick for Denver and was later traded to the Orlando Magic.
The ACC dominates the list of 21 players included on the preseason watch list, with eight players recognized. The Big 12 followed up with three players, while the list also includes two players each from the Big 10, Conference USA, the SEC and Pac 10. Individual programs leading the picks were North Carolina with 3 inclusions, and Oklahoma State with two picks.
