
Terps Complete First Day of Georgia Tech Invitational

Atlanta, Ga. - The Maryland Women's Tennis team began their final tournament of their fall season Friday afternoon, on the campus of Georgia Tech at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The four team tournament features host Georgia Tech, Maryland, Florida State and Marshall. On the first day of action Maryland competed in singles matches against Florida State and doubles matches against Marshall.
The Terps captured three singles victories on Friday against the Seminoles. Junior Jennifer Dent defeated Lindsay Deason, 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore Masha Senic was victorious against Natalie Tirapelli, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Neda Mihneva dropped the first set to Miranda Foley 4-6, but stormed back and won two straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to win the match. Mihaela Moldovan defeated by Sophomore Marianne Baker 6-4, 6-1. Junior Veronika Subertova lost a hard fought match to Roxanne Clarke 7-5, 7-5. Freshman Tamar Huppes won the first set over Tapiwa Marobela 7-5, but Marobela rebounded to win the final two sets 6-4, 7-5. Amberly Tantee defeated Freshman Julia Graca 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Terrapin combination of Marianne Baker and Juila Graca defeated the Marshall tandem of Shannon Brown and Jeanne Schwartz, 8-6. Neda Mihneva teamed up with Jennifer Dent to defeat Alizee Paradis and Holly Asel, 8-3. Junior Ramona But and Sophomore Brooke Rogers lost to Joelle Good and Danielle Hock, 9-7. Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie of the Fighting Herd captured a victory over Tamar Huppes and Veronika Subertova, 8-5.
Maryland will continue action in the Georgia Tech Invitational tomorrow morning. The Terps will take on the Yellow Jackets in singles action and the Seminoles in doubles matches.
