
Terrapin Baseball Topples Towson, 10-4

TOWSON, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team defeated Towson University today. The Terps (4-7) packed a punch at the plate, hitting four home runs en route to the 10-4 win over the Tigers (5-3).
Kevin Hart made his strongest start of the season and earned his first win as a Terrapin, holding Towson to one earned run in seven innings of work. Hart struck out a season-high eight batters, while issuing just one walk and surrendering nine hits.
Terrapin Matt Maropis hit the first home run of his career, sending a solo shot over the left field wall in the fifth inning. Maropis ended the game with a career-high three hits and tied his career-high with two RBI.
Maryland showed some power at the plate in the sixth inning when Brian Jarosinski and Dan Melvin hit back-to-back home runs. Jarosinski's three-run homer was his fourth of the season. Melvin's solo home run was his second of the season.
Maryland expanded their lead in the ninth inning when Maropis and Anthony Buffone hit RBI singles. Will Frazier followed those hits up with a three-run first home run, his first of the season.
Jason Maxey and Elliot Singletary each went 2-for-3 on the day. Mike Costantino hit his first triple of the year in his third at bat. Justin Hulse pitched two innings of relief, striking out a season-high four batters and allowing one earned run.
The Maryland baseball team will be in action on Wednesday, March 10, when they face off against UMBC in Baltimore, Md., at 3 p.m.
