Terrapin Baseball Comes Up Short Against VCU, 4-1

BOWIE, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team came up short against Virginia Commonwealth University on Wednesday at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md., losing by a score of 4-1. Maryland scattered 11 hits, but was unable to match the Rams' four runs.
Starting on the mound for the Terrapins (17-22), sophomore Ben Pfinsgraff allowed only two earned runs with three strikeouts in his six innings of work against the Rams (24-14). VCU's starter, Brandon Moore was equally strong in his start, holding the Terps to one run while striking out six batters.
Junior Will Frazier brought in the Terrapins' lone run of the game with a solo home run to left center in the eighth inning. The home run was Frazier's sixth of the season and third in two days.
Senior Anthony Buffone had a solid game for the Terrapins with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate. Buffone now sits just one hit shy of tying the all-time lead at Maryland for hits in a career.
Sophomore Seth Overbey came out of the bullpen to pitch three innings of relief. Overbey did not allow an earned run and surrendered just two hits in his appearance.
Maryland will be in action this weekend when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Wake Forest University. The first match up of the three-game set will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 23, at Hooks Stadium.
