Dickerson Elevated To Senior Associate Head Coach

April 8, 2004

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Terrapin assistant basketball coach and former Maryland team captain Dave Dickerson (Maryland, 1990) has been elevated to the position of Senior Associate Head Coach, announced Thursday by Gary Williams.

Dickerson, who has been a member of Williams' staff since 1996, has been one of the country's most accomplished assistants for the last eight seasons. Accolades for Dickerson have included his recognition as an AFLAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003, the ACC's No. 1 Assistant Coach as named by Basketball News (2003-04), Athlon Sports' No. 4 Assistant Coach in the nation (2003-04), and an "Assistant Coach on the Rise" as tabbed by ESPN's Andy Katz (2003-04).

"I would like to thank Coach Williams for the elevation on his staff, which keeps me in line to achieve my goal of becoming a head coach in the future," said Dickerson. "As a former player at the University of Maryland, I am proud of all we have accomplished and I look forward to continuing the development of our current group of student-athletes."

Dickerson has built a solid reputation as a recruiter and mentor. His eight seasons on the Terp sideline have included eight NCAA Tournament berths, five Sweet Sixteen appearances, two trips to the Final Four and Maryland's first-ever national championship in 2002. He also helped lead the Terps to the 2004 ACC Tournament title and the regular-season crown in 2002.

As Maryland's top recruiter for the past several years, Dickerson helped land Top 10 recruiting classes in 1997 and 1998, the fourth-rated class in the nation in 2002 and the country's No. 2 class in 2003. Dickerson has recruited and coached two NBA lottery picks and four total first round selections.

Dickerson has been an assistant coach for 14 seasons overall, with stints at Gardner-Webb, James Madison and Radford prior to the return to his alma mater. His career includes 14-straight winning seasons, and nine postseason appearances.

Williams said: "Dave does an outstanding job and is a very important part of every aspect of our basketball program. He will be an outstanding head coach in the very near future."
