203 Terrapin Student-Athletes Named To ACC Honor Roll

The University of Maryland had a total of 203 student-athletes named to the 48th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, noting academic excellence by student-athletes for the 2003-04 school year, announced Commissioner John Swofford recently.
The Honor Roll is comprised of those student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. Duke led the conference in total selections for the 16th straight year, placing 369 student-athletes on the list, while North Carolina was second with 244. Virginia was third with 224 and Maryland was fourth with 203, followed by Clemson (195), NC State (178), Florida State (174), Georgia Tech (112) and Wake Forest (111).
Terp field hockey player Sara Silvetti is a four-time selection and received the 2004 ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Scholarship.
The track and field / cross country programs had 36 total student-athletes named to the honor roll, while men's and swimming combined for 35 (21 women, 14 men). The lacrosse teams were next with 27 total (15 men, 12 women), followed by the soccer programs with 17 (10 women, seven men). Tennis had 10 total (five men, five women) and golf had nine (four men, five women).
Football had 14 players garner the honor, while wrestling and gymnastics had 10 apiece. Field hockey and volleyball each had eight, followed by baseball (seven), softball (six), women's basketball (four) and women's water polo (two).
