Terps in 8th at Mid Pines Men's Tourney

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Senior Bobby MacWhinnie fired a 2-under-par 70 to finish at 145 after the first two rounds of the UNCG/Mid Pines Intercollegiate men's golf tournament being held at the Mid Pines Inn.
MacWhinnie was in a tie for 16th place individually following the opening 36 holes of the 54-hole event. He was one of three Terrapins who opened the day with scores of 75.
As a team, Maryland was in eighth place at 593 after the first two rounds. The Terps opened with 301, then improved to 292 in the afternoon. Marylnad was seven strokes behind seventh-place Lamar. Wichita State shot a 9-under team total of 567 to take a five-shot lead over host UNC Greensboro.
John Eades shot 72 in the afternoon round for Maryland to finish at 147 and tie for 30th individually. Tyler Witman was tied for 37th at 75-73--148, with fellow sophomore Matt Schall in a tie for 64th at 153 and newcomer Jason Occi in a tie for 72nd at 156.
Derek Smith of Wichita State was tied for first individually with a 36-hole total of 140. Adam Howell of East Carolina also shot 140, with Nathan Stamey of UNCG in third place, one shot behind.
