Terps Second at Rutgers Golf

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Bobby MacWhinnie opened with a 67 and finished at 141 to place fifth individually and lead Maryland to a second-place team finish Friday at the Rutgers Men's Golf Invitational.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather on Saturday.
Maryland shot even-par rounds of 288 as a team to place second. The Terps finished 12 strokes behind host and first-place Rutgers.
MacWhinnie's opening-round 67 was the low score of the tournament. He followed with a 74 in the afternoon round Friday.
Two other Terrapins earned top-20 finishes in the tournament, held at the par-71 Rutgers University Golf Course. John Eades had rounds of 73 and 71 to tie for 11th at 144, while Tyler Witman went 72-75 for a 147 total and a tie for 18th.
Also for Maryland, Matt Schall went 79-69 for a 148 total and a tie for 22nd, with freshman J.J. Occi in 25th at 150 after a 76 and a 74.
Rutgers' Jason Bataille fired identical rounds of 68 for a 136 total and the individual title, winning by three shots over Chris Condello of Columbia.
Maryland plays at The McLaughlin next weekend, where the Terps will defend their team title.
